The Bible declares that, while required to be perfect before God, all are “dead in trespasses and sins”. The fundamental doctrine of the gospel, also presented in the Bible, is that God has prepared a way for fallen men to be made right before him. He has done this by sending His own Son to take on a human (yet perfect) nature, to pay the debt owed by awakened fallen sinners, his elect, made objects of his mercy by his grace.
