God has blessed our congregation with another deacon to serve in our midst and encourage us in our walk in Christ Jesus. We're excited that Gerald Epp is now ready to be ordained after a time of testing and training.
As part of the service, our dear brother will be given this charge to carry out his duty well and with great diligence:
The office of deacon is based upon the interest and love of Christ for his church. This interest is so great that he deems what is done unto the least of his brothers as done unto Him, thus appointing the needy to represent himself in our expression of sympathy and benevolent service on earth. “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' (Mat 25:35-36 ESV)
The specialty of the Deacon's office is, that it embraces of itself no other function, and that it binds its possessor to do what he can to prevent the ministry of the Word, or the work of the Eldership, from being hindered by the burden of temporal matters.
