Our Congregation

We are a Christian congregation worshipping the Lord our God in Vancouver, BC. We love God's Word and cherish our practice of worshipping God in our every thought, word, and deed. Our mission is to proclaim and defend the gospel to all people, in word and deed, with courage as humble servants of Jesus Christ to the glory of God. Although small, we come from a variety of different backgrounds.

In April 2023, the congregation became affiliated with the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Canada (RPCC). Prior to that, the congregation was affiliated with the Associated Presbyterian Churches. As a result, our charity name, which we use for all legal and business purposes, is still “Associated Presbyterian Church Vancouver.” Both denominations are confessionally Presbyterian denominations. Currently, the RPCC has 9 churches/mission stations throughout Canada.

What to Expect

The first thing you'll experience is a warm welcome from our congregation. We are always excited whenever someone comes to visit. Our worship service is conducted in a very simple style, unaccompanied by musical instruments. We encourage you to experience this stillness as a call to reverent worship and not to think of it is as the absence of sounds. We live in a world cluttered with a cacophony of noises, and our times of public worship together are made more profound through their simple clarity and times of stillness.

Our worship follows the form of a dialogue. When Christians worship, we are in a dialogue with God. He speaks to us in His Holy Word and we respond to Him with our singing of the Psalms, our praying together in prayers of confession and supplication, and our giving of gifts and offerings to the Lord. You can also expect is a sermon that is faithful to God's Word and chiefly concerned with the explanation and application of God's Holy Word to you and your life. God uses preaching to communicate His glories and grace to us. We believe that the preaching of God's Word is a life-bringing and life-renewing activity because the Holy Spirit applies that Holy Word to our hearts.

Our Singing

We are a psalm singing congregation, which may be unfamiliar to most people who visit. We believe God has given the Church the Psalms as inspired songs for worshipping him. These are the very songs that Jesus sang, and so we, his sheep, follow his example. Geerhardus Vos put it this way: “Our Lord himself, who had a perfect religious experience and lived and walked with God in absolute adjustment of his thoughts and desires to the Father’s mind and will; our Lord himself found his inner life portrayed in the Psalter and in some of the highest moments of his ministry borrowed from it the language in which his soul spoke to God, thus recognizing that a more perfect language for communion with God cannot be framed.” We use the “Psalms for Praise” as our primary Psalter. The words and tunes of this Psalter can be found HERE.

Children

We encourage parents to bring their children into the worship service and we make it a priority to include them in the singing, prayers, and the instruction from the Word of God. The children are incorporated into the service and we hear their sounds as a testimony of the zeal for life the Lord gives to children! It is a joyful noise even when it doesn't feel like it. If you do need to take a child out, do not hesitate to ask about space for that.
